Author Last Post
I think they do this every year about this time..... it's their one

Ultra Marathon Cycling Association Year Rounders Award

It's getting to the time for New Years resolutions. "I'm going to lose weight. I'm going to ride more this year." If you are a somewhat serious cyclist and want to make a commitment to really do yourself some good, think about the UMCA's Year Rounder Award. 12 century rides in 10 months of 2014... a little wiggle room for 2 make up rides if you miss a month.

This was a small subculture of the Memphis Hightailers started in 2012. There is even a title spot for it on the website, however, it became dormant in 2013. Having made the effort and winning my Year Rounders medal in 2012 at age 65, I was ready for a year off, as were most of the others. Now with the retrospective of a Year Rounders year on, and the next year off, I realized what great shape I was in 2012, and I think I'm ready for a 2014 year ON. Maybe 2014 will be your year to make a commitment to yourself that will stick.

If you have been on the BCB100 Training Team or ever trained for a century ride, you know how good it feels to reach that goal...how strong you felt when you did it. Imagine feeling that way all the time all year long. Mentally, the challenge becomes not, "Am I strong enough to ride a bike 100 miles?" but "When am I going to have the time to take 7 hours to ride my bike? Can I ride 100 miles in the wind? the rain? the cold?" You start looking for organized century rides in other cities. You start looking for crazy mountain centuries in the Smokies, the Rockies. Maybe this year the Alps? the Pyrenees? You may even start thinking of multi day rides or double centuries. Your friends and coworkers will think you've lost your mind! Got a GoPro? You could make a realty TV show!

Joining the UMCA and going for the Year Rounders Award will provide a simple frame that will make you strong. Go for it. www.ultracycling.com
