Wolf River Greenway Trail Groundbreaking this Wednesday, February 10, 2010!!

|
Please attend this important milestone event and support the Wolf River Greenway Trail project!!!!
Next week, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10th, Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton will lead the groundbreaking ceremonies for the first leg of Memphis Park Services‘ 22 mile, $30 million, Wolf River Greenway trail system. A large turnout would demonstrate the widespread support for this project and could help to insure, and perhaps expedite, the Wolf River Greenway‘s trail construction. The completion of Memphis’ Wolf River Greenway will provide an important public realm amenity for what has been identified by many as one of America’s unhealthiest communities.
The Wolf River Greenway will benefit and connect Memphis’s many diverse neighborhoods, Downtown’s Riverfront Parks, Shelby Farms Park, the Wolf River Wildlife Area at Collierville and many other public parks, facilities and schools in the river corridor. One day, Greenway trail users will be able to bike ride, walk, or run while meandering along the Wolf River 30 miles from Downtown Memphis to Collierville-Arlington Road.
Following the ceremony, participants are invited to accompany staff on a short walk along Germantown’s nearby Wolf River Greenway trail.
Please join us to celebrate and to demonstrate your support for the City of Memphis Park Services’ and our community’s new Wolf River Greenway! Also, please express your appreciation and support for the Greenway Trail project to our public officials including Mayor Wharton and Parks Director Cindy Buchanan.
DIRECTIONS TO CEREMONY: Wednesday’s dedication will occur at the intersection of Walnut Grove Road and Humphreys Blvd., just east of the Walnut Grove Wolf River Bridge. Parking is available on the north side of Walnut Grove. You may use http://www.mapquest.com/ and this address: 40 N. Humphreys Blvd., Memphis, TN 38111-3537 to find the location. The parking lot can be reached by exiting Walnut Grove at Humphreys Blvd., and then turning northwest onto N. Humphreys Blvd. (rather than southeast past Baptist Hospital). The parking lot is immediately west of Humphreys Blvd. (we will have signs). You can then walk across Humphreys Blvd. (this side of Humphreys Blvd. dead ends, and it is lightly traveled), and then walk the short greenway path under the Walnut Grove Bridge to the groundbreaking site. Note: in case of inclement weather we can gather under the bridge.
We look forward to having everyone show their support for the Wolf River Greenway!
