As discussed today on bike ride, I am not knowledgeable about this route. You expressed the possibility of crime in the route suggested by Mark Hicks. Sometimes cars are necessary evils for certain areas at certain times of the day.
Benjie,

I'm looking to commute from Poplar Pike and Hacks Cross to the airport. My shift times are very odd so it would involve a lot of night riding. The route I've looked at takes me via Quince to Colonial to Willow to Perkins and 240. Getting from there to the airport is my worry. (time of day, neighborhoods and traffic) any advice or alternatives would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Today I learned that I can help to provide one of the needs of the utilitarian cyclists (one who cycles to work, shopping, etc.). Please contact me on this forum or by e-mail (benkab@juno.com) if you would like help determing an optimal route for your trip. If I can't provide the information, I am sure that there is someone "out there" who can. In view of that there are numerous plans (Bicycle-Pedestrian plan, Long Range Transportation Plan of the Memphis Metropolitan Planning Organization), which exist in plan only, we can make our own de facto routes. Many routes for recreational riding are already well known. The practical routes can be established in the same way.
