Has anybody done this or any other section of the MRT? I'm looking to do this in October and am wanting feedback on the conditions of the road, traffic, etc....
Am also looking for anybody that might want to ride along, as well. I'm posting this on bikeforums.net to get the word out to other people up north that may be traveling down around that time and who wouldn't mind some others joining them. Can't think of a better destination to end up at than New Orleans. Probably 65-70 miles a day. Nothing too much so the ride can be enjoyed. Cheap motels, camping. Will be a great time of year for it. One way tickets back on Amtrak run about $50, with a $20 fee for your bike? Something like that. Feedback would be great!

This may be part of the pay to ride "Ride Across America". A great commercial outfit doing it for years. A bit pricey.

I put the MRT on MapMyRide. It appears the total distance would be about 600 miles, versus about 390 if you drove direct in a car.
How many days were you planning for the ride?

600 miles? Jeez! I figured it would be about 450-475 at the most. I guess i should check into this a little bit more. I was planning to be on the road for six days, at a max of 75 miles per day. That would give me a few days to spend in new orleans before i came back.

Below are my links to MapMyRide, these routes are rough unfinished drafts. They add up to about 600 miles. The first goes from Collierville to Natchez MS

the second goes from Natchez to New Orleans

Per the MRT web site they are planning a :
Tour Da' Delta '09
Dates are being finalized for Tour Da' Delta '09! This ride, beginning in Memphis, TN, and ending at the Vicksburg National Military Battlefield, will take you through historic Civil War sites, along burgeoning fields ready for harvest, past national forest lands, and Tara Wildlife, a 17,200 acre preserve just north of Vicksburg. Parts of the ride will be in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi! This is a don't miss opportunity! Check here for more details in upcoming months.
You could break your Memphis to New Orleans ride into two parts. The closes Amtrak station to Vicksburg would be Yazoo City or Jackson. YAZ to MEM cost $32.00 on Amtrak. You could finish the trip by riding down part way down on Amtrak then ride to New Orleans and back to Memphis on Amtrak
