UMCA Year-Rounder

Hello all,
I am planning to ride a century this upcoming Saturday, the 22nd, for my final century of the year, and I wanted to extend an invitation to anyone who would like to join me. The weather is, for once, supposed to be clear and non-rainy, but quite chilly next Saturday, in my opinion the perfect December century!

I am working on a route based somewhat on the "Ole Man River 200K" we rode in January, but at only a little over 100 miles, and not including any dirt roads. ;-)

Would love to go, but a 80 lb Lab changed my plans on Nov. 9th. Ran directly in front and both of us were at full speed. Over the bars, suffering a concussion and broken right collarbone. Can't get back on the road until January.

I have completed the route I plan to take for the "little century" this
Saturday, and here is the link:

Dannie Medlin, Bill Ramia, Bill Baggett, and Terrance Washington have all
expressed some interest in joining me. If I left anyone out, let me know.

Some notes on the route:
1. I wanted to do some challenging hills, so I included a lot of those.
All the big ones in Shelby Forest State Park, and my new favorite, Black
Springs Bluff hill.
2. I wanted to ride on some unfamiliar roads, but I have verified with an
estimated 99% certainty that they are all paved. ;-)
3. I wanted this ride to be a bit of an adventure, thus the unfamiliar
roads. :-)
4. The route doesn't have many stores. First one will be 32 miles in.
Pack food and plenty of water.
5. It's an unsupported ride (see #4), so bring extra tubes, tools, etc.

We will meet at the Kroger parking lot on Hwy 64, near I-40 in Lakeland
(or is it Bartlett?). I want to leave by 7:30 AM, so please plan on
arriving by 7 at least. Would like to be done long before sundown!

I'd need to know where Black Springs Bluff Road is so Neal doesn't snooker me into going there!

Not to be too flippant, but look at the map! Black Springs Rd is south of the intersection of Bluff Rd and Pryor/Herring Hill, and connects Herring Hill Rd to Ray Bluff Rd. I believe it is the most challenging climb in this area.

Just look for a cliff in that area ---- we get to ride up the thing.... Just saying.

Not sure on the metrics of that particular cliff, but it's like if you put
Jackson Hill and Campground Hill together: it's about as long as Jackson
Hill, and has sections at least as steep or more than Campground Hill.
It's a beast! Fun times! Come on out and ride it!

I don't recommend going down it, by the way. Broken pavement and
sand/gravel at the very bottom. Scary!
