I had planned to ride with you guys, but I decided to go with Myrna to see
her son. I got on the bike at 5:30 and rode out to Whiteville on 64.
Went 46. I was thinking about you guys...just as I was getting off the
bike it was blowing hard from the South. I don't know if I'll be riding
next week 'cause Scott is getting married and I'll probably be really busy doing
wedding stuff. But...if I can sneak away I will try to ride.
Hopefully after this wedding, I can become a dependable rider.

Ride Report, Saturday
4/23
Location: Outlet mall in Lakeland. 7am roll
time.
Riders: The usual crowd with a few newbies. About a
dozen riders.
Route: The usual: Monroe, Sumac, Donelson,
Hwy 64 to Oakland, north on hwy 194, Lambert. Ride into Gallaway then
onto Arlington Farmer's Market, back to the mall.
Stats: approx
38 miles, hilly, sunny, 15-20mph wind out of the south.
We headed
on the usual route and the group quickly strung out with folks finding their
own pace. A few folks followed the MHBC Finney ride route markers
instead of heading to hwy 64 via Donelson road. We all eventually
"regrouped" at some point. Read on....
The route out was mostly
into the headwind, but the trees blocked the worst of it. First stop at
the Texaco station on hwy 64. We noticed about half the group was
MIA. We headed up hwy 194. Ahhhhh..... tailwind! We
found our positions on the paceline and the group stuck together clicking
along at 25-28mph all the way to Lambert road. We discovered three of
the wayward riders and picked them up on the pace line.
We turned onto
Lambert into a wicked cross wind. We passed a sign "BRIDGE OUT"
so, naturally, we kept going just to see what exactly that meant. One of
the Lambert road bridges had a large backhoe parked across it to discourage
crossing. It was not an effective ploy to discourage us. We
crossed the bridge by dismounting and ducking ourselves through a narrow space
between the backhoe bucket arm and the edge of the bridge.
We
continued on into Gallaway with the wind seeming to pick up. There were
no trees to block the crosswind as we travelled into Arlington for a rest stop
at the Farmer's Market.
After a brief rest we headed back to the
mall. The remaining riders who were MIA (Steve Watson and Kyle) arrived
shortly after us after they completed the Finney Ride 45 mile route.
An
excellent day for a ride.
